ABOUT US
The Health Centre of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore provides Primary Health Care to the large number of Students, Staff, Faculty Members and their families. The Area Medical Officer's serve the Institute Community staying outside the Campus.
The Hospital is headed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with a team of full time Medical Officers, Visiting Consultants and Para Medical staff.
The Director has also constituted a Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS) with a nominated Chair and Members drawn from the health center and other recognized bodies of the Institute including Student representatives. An Assistant Registrar (HC) as the Member Secretary of the Committee. This Committee formulates various policies for providing medical facilities to the Campus Community.

Our team’s MISSION is to provide High Quality Primary Health Care Services to the Students, Faculty and Staff of IISc., Community with attention to clinical excellence, patient satisfaction and patient safety. We also tend to provide facilities and amenities that promote the quality care and afford solace to our community.

Our VISION is to continue to provide High Quality Services, updating ourselves to provide the best Health Care Support to the IISc. community.
HISTORY
IISc., was started in 1909 and the first students joined in 1911. Dr. Wale was a Visiting doctor in the year 1911. In 1923, Dr. Capt. Iyengar was appointed as a Consultant for Students and others. In 1941, this centre was named as Dispensary. Since, 1941 - 1979, Dr. M N Mahadevan was appointed as a Consulting Medical Officer and Dr. T B Subba Rao from 1948 to 1977 worked as a Resident Medical Officer. In 1975, the name of Dispensary was changed to Health Center. Subsequently, in 1969 Dr. B S Subba Rao was appointed as The Medical Officer and promoted as The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) from 1979 to 1998. Later, Dr. P H Prasad worked as The Chief Medical Officer from 1998 to 2005. Further Dr. G R Nagabhushanna, worked as The Chief Medical Officer from 2005 to 2013. Since 2013 to till date, Dr. C Satish Rao is InCharge of health centre. It has grown into a well- equipped primary health care centre. Being located on the south-west end of the campus, opposite to the `A' Mess of the Students’ Hostel, our patients have a wide access to the best Medical Facilities.
